Spring into Summer

March 22, 2012

Officially, Spring arrived Tuesday.  The weather for the last two weeks has felt more like  summer, at least, the summers I grew up enjoying in Minnesota.  I have been greatly enjoying the 70’s and 80’s.  These temperatures are what I consider to be perfect.

It does make me wonder, if these are the temperatures in March, what will be coming in June, July and August?

Oh well, let’s not focus on that concern.  There is nothing we can do about it anyway.

Today is a beautiful day!

Running Hot

June 7, 2011

When I was a young man, thirty years and thirty pounds ago, I loved to go for runs on hot, summer days.  The hotter, the better.  There was something about the experience that was particularly exhilarating.

Not so much anymore.

Now I prefer the temperature to be in the sixties.

When it becomes hot, and humid, I struggle to complete the distance.  My times slow down and I may even have to walk, (something I never did when I was younger).  I wear a hydration belt that carries thirty-two ounces of fluid and will use it all before I am done.

Yesterday, it was in the nineties, with high humidity.

I ran inside, where it was air-conditioned.

Summer

May 31, 2011

I remember summer vacation as a child.  It was wonderful.  Sleeping in, riding my bike, playing outside, going to the local pool.  It was great!

As an adult, things have changed, but I still enjoy summer.  In my situation, I have two jobs.  I pastor a church in a small community, and I teach at a local community college.  There is no break from being a pastor, but there is a break at the school.

It is really nice to have a few weeks when I am only responsible for one job.  I will be teaching a summer class in July, and the fall semester starts in August, so June is my summer break.

I am looking forward to it.
